Soils

Accordng to the Environmental Atlas (2005), the predominant soils in the Serra da Gardunha are classified as lithosoils and cambisoils.

 

The lithosoils are found in the zones more to the northeast and southeast of the Serra da Gardunha, while the cambisoils are located in almost the entire mountain range.

 

The cambisoils are more evolved with a B Cambian horizon, while the lithosoils or skeletal soils are characterized as scarcely evoved with consolidated rock that is less than 10 cm, or in some cases, where there is a greater abundance of roots, there is already organic material developed by microrganisms present (Ricardo, 1980).
